Brotherton War Memorial lists George and the others from the village who died. George was the son of Mrs. Frances Townsley of The Flatts, Henry St., Brotherton, Yorkshire.

Buried: BAGHDAD (North Gate) War Cemetery - Grave Reference: XVI/N/9. Baghdad (North Gate) War Cemetery is 800 metres beyond the North Gate of the City of Baghdad on the south-eastern side of the road to Baguba. The Cemetery contains graves from both World Wars. Within the cemetery is the Baghdad (North Gate- Khanaquin) Memorial.

Brotherton was the home village for several branches of the Townsley family tree; including that of another George Townsley - my great-grandfather.
