The main changes this month are -

  • Updates to the Family History pages through tracing some of the Comstive family linked via the marriage to Leo Sheeky.

November 2003

  • A few updates to the Family History pages - busy working away frome home.

October 2003

  • Updates to the Family History pages thanks to contributions from other researchers via their web sites, by checking through new entries at the Yorkshire BMD / FreeBMD web sites and by buying more certificates while visiting the Family Records Centre. The main addition being the Scull / Skull families linked via the marriage of John Ralph Townsley.

July 2003

  • Updates to the Family History pages thanks to contributions from other researchers and by checking through some FamilySearch Pedigree Resource File CDs.

June 2003

  • Updates to the Family History pages. The Townsley database now stands at around 17,350 entries - with 4,350 successfully linked to my family lines. The Strangways-Towneley "famous families" database has grown to over 56,000 entries and has become too large to be loaded on-line; except as a much reduced GEDCOM file. A full file can be provided on CD-ROM but I now have to change for this -see contents page for more details.
  • Updates to the Townsley families in Scotland thanks to contributions from other researchers.
  • Updates to the Pro Cycling Hall of Fame pages.
  • Updates to the Family Photos pages*
  • Update to the Frequently Asked Questions page*

* Available on CD-ROM to family members only.

May 2003

April 2003

March 2003

  • Updates to the Family History pages - Townsley Families in South Wales and in South Shields / Tynemouth - with the addition of another 4 years of Townsley marriages.
  • More updates to the Family History pages including Townsley Families in Burnley and in Cumbria - as well as another 6 years of Townsley marriages. This completes my planned trawl through the marriage registers - so future updates will be from other research and family sources. The Strangways-Towneley database has now grown to over 41,000 entries and the main Townsley database to over 17,000 entries.

February 2003

  • Continued updating of the Family History pages. The Strangways-Towneley database growing to over 37,000 entries and the Townsley database now at around 16,860 entries - due to the addition of another 15 years of Townsley marriages.

January 2003

  • Continued updating of the Family History pages - with the Strangways-Towneley database growing to 35,000 entries and the Townsley database now around 16,400 entries.
  • New Home Page and minor updates for 2003. Also, due to systems changes at Beeb.Net, many of the pages on this web server had to be amended to overcome new file naming requirements - i.e. they switched to "case-sensitive" file names and so "Images" became different to "images"! Once I found out I was able to change all the affected web pages - but the search engines may still have problems.

Access via the Internet

The following URL's can be used to access my e-mail and Internet pages on the World Wide Web. Note that some web servers are case-sensitive; so that the use of capitals / lower case is critical. Since Windows PCs are not case sensitive for file names, working links sometimes fail when loaded to the server. If this happens let me know and I will correct the problem.

At the Tesco site -

At the FreeBeeb / BBC site

NOTE - this site recently changed over to "case sensitive" file names so if links have stopped working please check the use of upper and lower case in the URLs

At British Telecom / Talk21 / BT Internet sites -

  • e-mail - townsleyb at talk21.com
  • e-mail - townsleyb at btinternet.com

At other sites -

Access via the CD-ROM

The following URL's give the same links as above but without the "http://homepages.tesco.net/~townsleyb/" prefix so that you use them to navigate around the family CD without going online. All the other pages in the site use this form of "relative" addressing for URL's - so that they will work when navigating around either format (CD pages and web pages). The Northern Heritage, Boatmen & Mariners and Leeds & Liverpool Canal Society pages are not included in the CD links - only the web URL's.
